I just got back from a trip to see my mother and sister. It was my first major trip of ’13 and one I was quite anxious to take! Both are doing well. And I’m happy to report that grandma is still with us! She is in poor health but will turn 94 next month, the good Lord willing.
Mom and I took a trip to the zoo. It is not nearly as big as other zoos, but it is growing and doing well. We walked quite a bit and she later remarked how she thought it was positive that I was walking well so soon after major surgery. That was a good observation and it reminded me how blessed I am, especially considering things could have turned out so much worse.
(some zoo animals)
I did a lot of driving and I got to see a lot of things. It always interests me to see wild animals during my trips. And this trip was no different. I saw five antelope so I pulled over to take a picture. They acted a little spooked as I zoomed in but at least they paused long enough to allow me to get a shot of them.
A sobering location on my trip involved a stop at Hebgen Lake near Yellowstone National Park. Back in ’59 a 7.5 earthquake struck at around 11:30 pm. 80 million tons of mountain slid down into the canyon, killing 28 people including 19 campers who are still buried under the slide. It dammed the river, creating Quake Lake and killing the trees along the shoreline. It was a strong reminder of how unstable our planet is and how important it is to enjoy each and every day we are given on this earth.
I hope you all are enjoying your summer. Stay safe and be well. And thanks again for dropping by…
