Sharon sighed happily as she reclined in the patio lounger. There was only one thing better than sitting out in the backyard getting a tan, and that was taking a dip in her pool to cool off. It would have been even better if she hadn’t gotten that stupid sunburn on her midsection.
She’d been out sunning herself earlier that morning. Unfortunately she’d failed to take into account the open section in the canopy above the pool. It had resulted in a rather wicked sunburn. But with some ointment and an old purple dress to cover her tummy she was back in the lounger enjoying the warmth of the afternoon.
She inwardly cursed her stupidity, but she wasn’t about to let it get her down. In fact she thought it somewhat amusing that she’d actually found a use for that old dress she’d never gotten around to getting rid of. Now it was protecting her midsection, thank you very much! But it was the ONLY thing she was wearing, and she looked out onto the rest of her backyard, enjoying exposing her breasts and crotch to the elements.
It wasn’t long until she felt the refreshing water of the pool calling to her. Off on the horizon she could see clouds moving in. The temperature was going to drop and they might get some rain. If she was going to enjoy a swim, she figured she’d better do it now.
She got up and was headed for the shallow end when something unusual caught her eye. There wasn’t a single ripple in the pool. The jets that circulated the water did not seem to be performing.
She walked over to the ladder in the deep end and sat on the top step between the rails. Then she felt around with her hand, confirming her suspicions. Sure enough, the jets weren’t kicking out any water.
“Well, crap!” she muttered. “That’s not good!” She felt around a little more as though that might somehow fix the problem. But it was no use; the jets simply weren’t functioning.
“It’s got to be the drain,” she muttered unhappily. When the water wasn’t circulating the first suspect was always the drain. After all, she was more than a little familiar with her pool and how it worked. The problem was probably somewhere on the bottom.
“Now where’s that screwdriver?” she asked no one in particular, looking all around. She wasn’t about to hire someone to come out and fix the problem. She was confidant in her abilities to deal with it herself.
She didn’t need some young twit coming out making matters worse and then charging her double for it. She was fully able to clean out some clog in the drain all by herself. All she had to do was open the damn thing with a screwdriver.
Sharon located a screwdriver and headed for the shallow end. The water was cool and refreshing. She sat on her ass with a big grin plastered on her face as her hair blossomed out on either side of her head. This was fun; the drain could keep for a minute or two.
She sat there smiling as bubbles dribbled out of her nose. She loved sitting on the bottom and holding her breath. In fact she loved everything about her pool. Minor repairs such as this one were a nuisance, but that was all they were. She was more than capable of taking care of her own pool repairs.
She stood up and gasped for breath, her heart beating as tingles of pleasure surged through her. Then she looked down into the deep end and her smile faded. ‘Time to deal with the drain!’ she told herself. Then she could enjoy her swim before the storm.
She filled her lungs and dove downward, pulling gracefully with her arms as her hair streamed behind her. She came up to the drain and grabbed on with her fingers. She bubbled as she peered down into it.
It looked like there was something clogging the drain all right. But it was on the other side of the cover. She would have to take it off in order to get to it.
‘No problem!’ she told herself. She figured she had just enough breath in her lungs to get the cover off before she would have to surface.
There were a couple of screws on either side and she went to work, bubbling as she twisted with the screwdriver. It took her longer than she expected, and her lungs began to burn. But she didn’t want to leave the job half-finished. She forced herself to stay down, hanging onto the cover until she’d removed the last screw.
She shot up before bothering to remove the cover, bursting up at the surface and gasping for breath. Now she had to use the screwdriver to pop the cover off. From there it was just a simple matter of reaching down and removing any kind of clog in the drain.
Sharon filled her lungs and then dove back down, bubbling as she pulled for the bottom of her pool. Once more she grabbed onto it with her fingers. Then she began prying it up with the screwdriver.
It popped off and the trouble instantly revealed itself. There was a lot of hair in the drain, virtually clogging the damned thing. It made her wonder if she might need to wear a swim cap more often. No wonder the damn thing had gotten clogged! It had pulled strands of hair right through the slits in the damn drain cover!
Sharon’s first mistake was understandable. She hadn’t bothered shutting off the pump as she hadn’t even thought about it. But her second mistake was more serious as she reached in barehanded to pull the hair out. She didn’t want any of the hair getting sucked into the system and clogging up the filter. That would REALLY cause a problem, one that might actually require the visit of a professional to fix the damned thing.
She grabbed on and pulled hard, not even considering the results. The majority of hair came right out. But she saw a few strands being sucked in and she frantically stuck her hand back down to grab what she could before it…
UNGH!!!
Sharon grunted in alarm as the increased suction grabbed her hand. “OUCH!” and she instinctively tried to pull it back out. But it was really jammed in there… and now the suction was holding on like a vindictive monster, unwilling to let go! She flailed wildly with her other arm as she tugged like mad.
It suddenly occurred to her that she should have turned off the pump. But it was too late for that now; she’d already reached in and pulled! It was a painful lesson, especially since her hand really hurt being sucked in like that!
‘I guess I won’t do THAT again!’ she thought in disgust as she yanked hard. But her hand refused to pull back out. That’s when she became aware of the whine from the pump, indicating a strain on the system from her hand blocking the drain.
She pulled harder but the suction refused to let go. It was incredibly strong and she couldn’t yank her hand free! A jolt of fear hit her and her nipples hardened as a result.
Her lungs were burning; she needed to surface right away. But the suction from the drain refused to release its grip on her hand! Sharon pulled frantically, grunting in growing alarm.
She jerked in near panic, losing a big burst of air in the process. Sharon grunted anxiously as her lungs began to heave. Her air was nearly gone… and there was no one around to help her, no one around to shut the pump down! She had to free herself right away or she was going to drown!
“LET ME GO!” her mind screamed as she jerked and pulled against the drain. But she could feel the powerful suction against her hand, could tell the pump wasn’t about to let go. She couldn’t get the leverage she needed to pull it free.
She lost another flurry of bubbles and she clamped her lips shut, anxious to keep her remaining air in her lungs. She didn’t have the strength left to fight against the drain anymore. Her sole purpose now was simply keeping water out of her lungs. But if she didn’t get free she knew she was going to drown!
She strained with all her might, hoping one of her neighbors might drop by and find her in time. Maybe one of her friends might come by for a swim and get to her before she drowned. But deep down she knew she was all alone and that no one was going to come to her rescue in time.
Sharon screamed her breath away as she struggled against the drain. Then she gurgled as her lungs inhaled reflexively. A moment later she started spasming and convulsing as water flowed down her windpipe into her lungs.
She coughed hard, flailing weakly at the surface with her free arm. She coughed again, convulsing painfully as water continued to flow freely into her lungs. Each time she coughed she pulled more water down her throat, causing her to choke and gag on it.
She shuddered hard, spasming weakly. Then she went limp, tethered to the pool floor by the suction of the drain against her hand. Tiny bubbles slipped out past her parted lips as her eyes started to glaze over.
She stared in total disbelief over what had just happened to her. It was inconceivable how she’d just drowned herself in some stupid pool accident! That was her last conscious thought as the life flicked out of her eyes.
Sharon’s legs settled onto the pool floor, her eyes open and vacant. An occasional bubble slipped out of her mouth as her hair started to settle around her head. She remained lodged there at the bottom of the pool, the pump receiving just enough flow past her wedged hand to continue holding her in place.
Eventually she would be discovered the next day by one of her girlfriends when she missed an appointment…
