Mila’s compromise

Demi decided she wasn’t giving Ashton up, no matter how much he was attracted to that bitch Mila. She’d put a lot of time and effort into him. She wasn’t about to lose it all now.

She began a campaign of harassing her husband’s new lover. She did her best to drive a wedge between him and Mila. But the bitch was proving harder to drive away then she’d anticipated.

She tried to work her magic on Ashton. But he was no longer attracted to her. It wasn’t fair he was seeing a younger woman now!

She finally decided to force a confrontation. So she put out an invitation to meet with Mila at the bitch’s favorite restaurant. That way, she figured Mila wouldn’t put up any kind of fuss, certainly not in a public place where she was well known.

Mila came in and was escorted over to Demi’s table. Demi motioned for her to have a seat. Mila looked all around before warily sitting down.

Demi got right to the point. “I invited you here because I want you to know Ashton doesn’t love you. It’s me he loves, me he will always love.”

I hate to say this,” Mila responded dryly, “especially since I always make it a point to respect my elders. But Ashton has moved on. It seems he prefers a younger model with less mileage on her.”

Demi bristled at the remark. “Less mileage, my eye,” she snorted. “You’ve been run through more times than the Holland tunnel. You really expect to win his heart?”

I already have,” Mila told her. “You’re the one who should bow out gracefully. You had a good run with him. Now it’s my turn.”

He’ll leave you and come back to me. I know Ashton. I know his heart.”

It seems you know him far less than you think you do.”

About that time Pierre came out. He smiled with recognition at his favorite customer. “And what can I get for you today, mademoiselle?”

Mila looked at him and smiled. “Nothing for me, Pierre. I’m just visiting with someone here.”

And what else can I get for you, mademoiselle?” he asked Demi with forced politeness. She had a cup of coffee she hadn’t touched yet. She hadn’t ordered anything else.

This is fine,” she said sourly as she motioned at her cup.

Very well.”

Pierre turned to go. Mila looked at Demi carefully. He had walked a few steps away when she called out, “Pierre? Is Thor still interested in putting together a special meal for me?”

He turned and smiled at her. “You know he loves a challenge, mademoiselle.”

Don’t go. I might have something in mind for him.”

He bowed… “As you wish, mademoiselle.”

Demi rose to go. “It seems you want a little something to eat. I’ve said my piece. Now I’ll be on my way.”

Not so fast,” Mila told her with a raised hand. “I don’t think we’re done with our conversation just yet. I want you to stop harassing me. Stop harassing the both of us.”

Only if you’ll leave Ashton alone.”

Perhaps we can reach some sort of compromise?”

Demi looked at her curiously. Pierre reluctantly stood nearby, not knowing what he was supposed to do next. It was not a conversation he wished to be a part of.

Mila told her, “I take it you want to live with Ashton, am I right? You want to see him every day; is that what you’re telling me?”

That’s about the size of it.”

You think Ashton has your heart?”

I know he does.”

Mila sighed. “Very well, if you’ll go see Thor for me and help him with that special meal he wants to fix, it will confirm beyond the shadow of a doubt Ashton will have your heart.”

You mean it?” Demi suddenly appeared hopeful.

I will leave it up to him. He can have your heart if he wants it. I won’t stop him.”

Maybe I misjudged you,” Demi replied, sensing something had shifted. Was the bitch giving in?”

Mila looked at Pierre and then motioned at Demi, giving him a look of understanding. He returned the gaze with his eyes raised. Then he nodded formally before replying, “If this is what you wish, mademoiselle, I’m sure Thor will be happy to comply.”

She’s going to do this thing for me, Pierre. This is her way of fully giving her heart to Aston.”

It will be done, mademoiselle,” he replied with a bow. Then he nodded toward Demi. “If mademoiselle will allow me to escort her to Thor?”

If I have to,” Demi replied, giving Mila a triumphant look. “Anything to get this bitch out of my way.”

Ashton put down his fork. He smiled at Mila as he took a napkin and wiped his lips. “I see Thor finally got to prepare that special dish for you.”

Did you like it?”

Delicious. What did he call it again?”

Sautéed Le Coeur Almandine.”

Le Coeur?” he asked with a puzzled look on his face. “Isn’t that, uh…?”

Yes it is, darling. It’s heart.”

She motioned across the restaurant, catching Pierre’s eye. He came rushing right over. “Was the meal to mademoiselle’s liking?”

Tell Thor it was superb. You may now bring out the best part. I was saving it until now.”

Very well, mademoiselle.” Then he bowed his head and departed.

What’s this all about?” Ashton wanted to know.

I had a little conversation with your former wife today.”

Instantly he frowned. “Is Demi bothering you again?”

We came to a compromise of sorts. She’ll be coming to live with us. I told her you’d have her heart.”

But my heart belongs to you, Mila.”

And so it does, my love.”

She caught sight of Pierre returning. She smiled as she motioned grandly at him. “This is for you, my love.”

Pierre formally came forward. In his hand was a tray. Upon the tray was the head of the woman who would no longer bother them anymore. At least she’d given her heart to the man she loved.
