I took my camera along in case I found anything of note to take pictures of. Since I like the water I knew my travels would take me somewhere near a river or lake.<\/p>\n<p>I drove to a lake not far from where I live, although I did have to cross the state line. Lake Owyhee has an interesting spillway. It is a hole cut into the rock near the edge of the lake so that when there is a lot of spring runoff the water runs out as though it is actually going down a very large drain.<\/p>\n<p>When the water level is low one can see how they built it into the side of the damn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/?attachment_id=11015\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11015\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11015\" src=\"https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blog-2011-5-24-100_0388.jpg\" alt=\"Blog 2011-5-24 100_0388\" width=\"610\" height=\"458\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blog-2011-5-24-100_0388.jpg 610w, https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blog-2011-5-24-100_0388-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px\" \/><\/a>But during spring runoff the dam gets full.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/?attachment_id=11016\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11016\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11016\" src=\"https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blog-2011-5-24-031.jpg\" alt=\"Blog 2011-5-24 031\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blog-2011-5-24-031.jpg 600w, https:\/\/riwaslibrary.com\/story\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/Blog-2011-5-24-031-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>That is when the spillway comes into play, sending more water rushing downstream. I am not aware of any other spillways that have been designed so ingeniously. But you certainly would not to ride it down. It gives me a chance to think.
